Discovery Wrestling return to the Edinburgh Corn Exchange this Saturday for their biggest show to date, as they celebrate their third anniversary. An amazing lineup of talent have been announced for the show, some familiar and some new. Among the guests are former two-time PROGRESS Atlas Champion Matt Riddle, ROH star Dalton Castle and former WWE star Lisa Marie Varon aka Victoria (or Tara for all you TNA fans).
2 out of 3 Falls Match for the Y Division Championship
Joe Coffey vs Lewis Girvan (c)
The main event for this huge show will see a 2 out of 3 Falls Match, as Lewis Girvan defends his Y Division Championship against “The Iron Man” Joe Coffey. The last time Joe challenged for the title was at Discovery’s show this past March, where Aspen Faith assisted Lewis in retaining the gold as they brought The Kings of Catch to Discovery Wrestling. With Joe going against The KoC ever since, he enlisted a second Joe in the form of Joe Hendry to help him. Joe-Squared defeated The Kings at Discovery’s most recent show in June and as a result, Coffey earned a rematch for the Y Division Championship. With Aspen scheduled to be in the building this Saturday, will Joe be able to fight off both of them this time around or will Lewis enter day 667 of his record-breaking title reign come Sunday?
Discovery Women’s Championship Tournament: Finals
Fatal Four Way Elimination Match to crown the inaugural Discovery Women’s Champion
Nina Samuels vs Lucy Cole vs Sammii Jayne vs Martina
At the end of 2016, Discovery Wrestling announced they would be holding three tournaments throughout 2017, one of those being an eight-women single-elimination tournament to crown their first ever Women’s Champion. Since March, eight of the best women from around the world have battled it out to advance to Saturday’s finals. In the semifinal matches;
March 5th 2017: Candice LeRae def. Viper
May 7th 2017: Nina Samuels def. Debbie Sharpe
June 23rd 2017: Sammii Jayne def. Toni Storm
June 23rd 2017: Lucy Cole def. Jayla Dark
Unfortunately due to other commitments, Candice LeRae will be unable to make it on Saturday so replacing her will be “The Session Moth” Martina, who impressed Discovery management in her victory over Ayesha Ray in April to earn Candice’s spot. These four women all have what it takes to be crowned Discovery’s inaugural Women’s Champion, but only can do so. Lucy Cole recently became the first PCW Women’s Champion down in England while Sammii Jayne currently holds the Pro Wrestling:EVE Championship and Martina is in her second reign as OTT Women’s Champion. Nina Samuels is the odd one out heading in to the match with no championship gold of her own (as far as I’m aware at least). Will the Buffet Club member be able to change things come Saturday? In addition to becoming the first champion, the winner will also be awarded the gold by former WWE star Lisa Marie Varon, who will be ringside for the contest.
Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational: Semifinals
Chris Ridgeway vs Aspen Faith
The second tournament Discovery have been putting on this year is an eight-man single-elimination tournament known as the Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational, with the winner earning a shot at the Y-Division Championship whenever they choose. The first of two semifinal matches this Saturday will see a technical showcase, as Chris Ridgeway faces Aspen Faith. In the quarterfinals, Ridgeway defeated Mark Coffey, while Faith overcame British wrestling legend Doug Williams. The current holder of the Y-Division Championship is Aspen’s Kings of Catch partner Lewis Girvan, so what if Aspen goes on to win the tournament and Lewis continues his near 2-year title reign? The Kings of Catch splitting up would be the biggest breakup since The Rockers.
Hotter Than Hell Edinburgh Invitational: Semifinals
Rampage Brown vs Mikey Whiplash
The second semifinal will see a powerhouse collision between Rampage Brown and Mikey Whiplash. Both of these men were involved in the wildcard matches during the quarterfinals, as Whiplash defeated wildcard Matt Riddle and Brown was revealed as the mystery opponent of Dave Conrad. Both of these men will want a crack at the Y-Division Championship and they’re going to prove that in this match. Rampage is a Discovery original, having defeated current NXT star Damian O’Connor on the first show in October 2014. The finals of the tournament will take place at November’s Uncivil War and judging by the final four, that match should be excellent.
Triple Threat Uncivil War Qualifier
The New Age Kliq (Chris Renfrew & BT Gunn) vs Polo Promotions (Jackie Polo & Mark Coffey) vs The Kings of the North (Bonesaw & Damien Corvin)
Fight Club. Dave Conrad & Deviation. Buffet Club. What do these three teams have in common? They’ve all qualified for Uncivil War in November. Uncivil War is a four way match to determine the 2017 Tag Team Champions. The final spot in the match will be determined this Saturday in a three way match between The New Age Kliq, Polo Promotions and the debuting Kings of the North. Three of the UK’s best teams will go at it with the hopes of going forward to November. All of these teams are known for their hard-hitting moves but which team is willing to go that extra step forward to advance to the Uncivil War finals?
Joe Hendry vs Dalton Castle
ROH star Dalton Castle will make his Discovery Wrestling debut this weekend as he takes on Joe Hendry. But will it be The Local Hero or The Prestigious One that we see this Saturday? Having ditched The Local Hero persona in many other promotions to become prestigious, Joe has become one of the most dislikeable names in British wrestling. This Saturday night, he’ll be facing quite possibly the most charismatic wrestler in the world in the form of former ROH World Six Man Tag Team Champion, Dalton Castle. Dalton may have his Boys with him this weekend, but we can’t count out the tactics of Joe Hendry. Since becoming The Prestigious One, Hendry is willing to do anything it takes to win a match, even if it means giving a man a concussion. In his hometown of Edinburgh, will Joe Hendry be a local hero or will he be prestigious?
Intergender Match
The House of Saynt (Christopher Saynt, Theo Doros & Jayla Dark) vs Michael Chase, Lou King Sharp & ???
A six person intergender tag match will also take place on Saturday, as House of Saynt members Christopher Saynt, Theo Doros and Jayla Dark take on Michael Chase, Lou King Sharp and a third mystery partner with a handful of stipulations on the line;
If The House of Saynt win, Michael Chase will never be allowed to face Christopher Saynt in a Discovery Wrestling ring ever again.
If Michael Chase’s team win, he will earn the right to face Saynt at Uncivil War on November 5th.
If Chase goes on to win that match aswell, The House of Saynt will be forced to split up.
After Doros and Sharp, who was a member of The House of Saynt at the time, lost in an Uncivil War Qualifier back in March, Sharp was kicked out of the The HoS before being saved by Michael Chase. Chase had been having problems over the shows prior to this and the issues between the two sides have yet to be resolved. As a result, Discovery management decided to schedule a six person intergender tag match for this Saturday’s show with three stipulations at stake. With Chase still to reveal his second partner, it leaves The House of Saynt at a disadvantage heading into the match. Who could Chase and Sharp possibly have up their sleeve?
Debbie Sharpe vs Ayesha Raymond
The last match announced for this weekend is a women’s match between Debbie Sharpe and WWE Mae Young Classic participant Ayesha Raymond. With Discovery crowning their inaugural Women’s Champion this Saturday, you’d have to imagine this is an unofficial #1 Contenders Match. Sharpe was eliminated in the semifinals of the tournament at the hands of Buffet Club’s Nina Samuels, while Raymond wasn’t even in contention for the title. After her impressive showing in the first round of WWE’s 32-woman tournament against Toni Storm, Ayesha has shown she has what it takes to be a big name. Will one of these women go on to become Discovery Women’s Champion down the line?
Also scheduled to be in action on Saturday is Matt Riddle. Discovery management have confirmed that The King of Bros will not be on the pre-show, which means a 9th match for the main show will take place. 11 matches in total for this historic show.
